Statement
Mono Colectivo is a group of nine former fototazo microgrant recipients who have come together as a collective to support their continued education and development. The members are Alba Bran, Andrés Sánchez, Angélica María Restrepo, Aura Lambertinez, Edwin Ochoa Vélez, Juliana Henao Alcaraz, Margarita Valdivieso, Mónica Lorenza Taborda and Natalia Lopera.
The group has a very special opportunity for the summer of 2015: a two week trip to the United States that will include a 10-day photography intensive workshop with Jeff Rich and myself at the University of Iowa, as well as a trip to Minneapolis to visit the Walker Art Center, the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, the Weinstein Gallery and local photographer studios, including a visit with Beth Dow and a visit to the studio of Alec Soth. We will also visit with Andy Adams of Flak Photo in Madison, Wisconsin for a conversation about photography distribution. They will also have an exhibition of their work from Medellín in Iowa City, and a second exhibition in Colombia of the work created during the workshop in Iowa after we return. More details will be forthcoming.
The total cost is $2,000 per student. For several in the group of nine, this will be their first trip outside of Colombia and for all of them this will be their first chance to attend a photography intensive workshop.
