fototazo has asked a group of 50 curators, gallery owners, blog writers, photographers, academics and others actively engaged with Latin American photography to pick two early career photographers whose work deserves recognition.
This project aims to highlight great work being made in the region today and also to provide a starting point in both English and Spanish for exploring contemporary Latin American photography. LatAm f100 is a collaboration between fototazo and the photographer and educator Jaime Permuth.
Today we continue the series with selections by the editors of the site Fotomeraki, Victoria Holguín and Daniella Benedetti. Their biographies follow their selections.
The series also includes responses from Molly Roberts, Mariela Sancari, Alonso Castillo, Paccarik Orue, Katrin Eismann, Dina Mitrani, Don Gregorio Anton, Cristina De Middel, Arturo Soto, Cecilia Fajardo-Hill, Guillermo Srodek-Hart, Yorgos Efthymiadis, Livia Animas, Juanita Bermúdez and Susana Raab.
fototazo ha invitado a un grupo de 50 curadores, galeristas, escritores, fotógrafos, y académicos - entre otros individuos seriamente comprometidos con la fotografía latinoamericana - a escoger cada quién dos fotógrafos emergentes cuya obra sea merecedora de mayor reconocimiento.
Este proyecto es una manera de celebrar el gran trabajo que se lleva a cabo en la región. Asimismo, busca proporcionar un punto de partida bilingüe en inglés y en español a las audiencias que deseen explorar la fotografía contemporánea en latinoamérica. LatAm f100 es una colaboración entre fototazo y el fotógrafo y educador Jaime Permuth.

Victoria Holguín: Daniella (my partner) and I met this pair of photographers while doing a search for new projects to publish in Fotomeraki.
Their works are very different from each other, but they definitely represent what Fotomeraki has always been interested in showing, and it is the work of Colombian photographers who are developing complete photographic projects and that, from their different experiences and interests, show us a little of how they see the world.
Este par de fotógrafos los conocimos Daniella (mi socia) y yo mientras hacíamos una búsqueda para publicar nuevos proyectos en Fotomeraki.
Sus trabajos son bien diferentes entre si, pero definitivamente representan lo que desde Fotomeraki siempre nos ha interesado mostrar, y es el trabajo de fotógrafos colombianos que estén desarrollando proyectos fotográficos completos y que a partir de sus diferentes vivencias e intereses, nos muestren un poco como ven el mundo.

The work of Karen Paulina is particularly close to the portrait, constantly looking at the female subject and looking for feminine elements in each of her shots. Always very eager to portray her subjects in a very specific way, often posing them in front of the camera but at the same time they all seem calm, which makes you want to see every detail of them, makes you want to study them a little and know more about them.
El trabajo de Karen Paulina es particularmente cercano a los retratos, mirando constantemente a la mujer y buscando elementos femeninos en cada una de sus tomas. Siempre muy pendiente de retratar a sus sujetos de una manera muy especifica, todos muchas veces posando frente a la cámara pero al mismo tiempo se les ve a todos en calma, lo que te hace querer ver cada detalle de estas personas, te hace querer estudiarlos un poco y saber mas sobre ellos.

In Alejandro's case the project that strikes us most is "Hidden" which we have on our website. Even though his other projects also show a powerful look at different themes, in particular the issue of conflict, he shapes the images of this particular project from all of the information he has at his reach without getting directly involved with the characters involved in the stories of conflict that he wants to tell. He manages to give voice to those who have disappeared and to those who remain hidden in the middle of this war that the country lives.
En el caso de Alejandro, el proyecto que mas nos llama la atención es "Hidden" el cual tenemos en nuestra pagina web y aunque sus otros proyectos muestran también una mirada poderosa hacia distintos temas y en particular el tema del conflicto, el configura las imágenes de este proyecto en particular a partir de toda la información que tiene a su alcance sin involucrarse directamente con los personajes implicados en las historias de conflicto que quiere contar. El logra darle voz a los desaparecidos y a los que permanecen ocultos en medio de esta guerra que vive el país.

Victoria Holguín
Photographer and entrepreneur/ 31-years-old
Photography specialization at La Universidad de Nacional de Colombia.
In 2013 Victoria started the project Fotomeraki which exhibits and promotes the best of Colombian contemporary photography. She was invited as a lecturer for "Latinoamerica emergente" at the Guatephoto photography festival. In 2016 she was part of the the exhibition "Tropical Palace" at the Encuentros de Imagen photography festival in Braga, Portugal.
At the present time, besides her commercial work, Victoria curates the Humboldt Institute photography project which invites Colombian photographers to accompany scientists in their expeditions to develop a series of photos based on biodiversity. The projects will be published in 2017.

EN EL 2016 HIZO PARTE DE LA EXHIBICIÓN “TROPICAL PALACE” DURANTE EL FESTIVAL DE FOTOGRAFÍA ENCUENTROS DE IMAGEN, EN BRAGA, PORTUGAL.
ACTUALMENTE ADEMAS DE SU TRABAJO COMERCIAL, ESTÁ ENCARGADA DE LA CURADURÍA DE FOTÓGRAFOS COLOMBIANOS PARA EL INSTITUTO HUMBOLDT. En el que artistas que trabajan con medios fotográficos acompañan a los científicos en las expediciones por toda Colombia, con el fin de desarrollar proyectos de autor inspirados en la biodiversidad. Los proyectos serán publicados en un libro en el 2017.
Daniella Benedetti
photographer/ 30-years-old
Master in Photography and Visual Design from the New School of Fine Arts, Milan, Italy.
In 2016 Daniela was selected by the Winterthur Museum in Zurich as one of the best 42 emerging photographers to exhibit her work before an international jury.
In 2011 she was selected as the one of the best new talents for her project "Freakers" by CANON, which was also exhibited at Fotográfica 2011, Milan.
In 2010 Daniella developed an important project called IS (Social Identity) which was sponsored by the municipality of Milan and exhibited in metro stations, bus stops and posters all over the city.

EN EL 2010 REALIZÓ UN IMPORTANTE PROYECTO LLAMADO IS (IDENTIDAD SOCIAL) EL CUAL FUE IMPULSADO POR LA ALCALDIA DE MILÁN Y EXPUESTO POR TODA LA CIUDAD EN ESTACIONES DE METRO, PARADAS DE BUSES Y CARTELES URBANOS.
