fototazo has asked a group of 50 curators, gallery owners, blog writers, photographers, academics and others actively engaged with Latin American photography to pick two early career photographers whose work deserves recognition.
This project aims to highlight great work being made in the region today and also to provide a starting point in both English and Spanish for exploring contemporary Latin American photography. LatAm f100 is a collaboration between fototazo and the photographer and educator Jaime Permuth.
Today we continue the series with selections by Julián Barón. His biography follows his selections.

fototazo ha invitado a un grupo de 50 curadores, galeristas, escritores, fotógrafos, y académicos - entre otros individuos seriamente comprometidos con la fotografía latinoamericana - a escoger cada quién dos fotógrafos emergentes cuya obra sea merecedora de mayor reconocimiento.
Este proyecto es una manera de celebrar el gran trabajo que se lleva a cabo en la región. Asimismo, busca proporcionar un punto de partida bilingüe en inglés y en español a las audiencias que deseen explorar la fotografía contemporánea en Latinoamérica. LatAm f100 es una colaboración entre fototazo y el fotógrafo y educador Jaime Permuth.

Agustín Zuluaga Olarte (Colombia)
"Santísimo Sacramento" and "Aerotaxi" are two photographic series that Agustín Zuluaga has made on the loss of memory caused by Alzheimer's or dementia that affects his parents and ancestors. Agustín knows that recollections of moments are the raw material of memory, and that these recollections are born in part with the complicity of images. Through photographs, negatives, letters and his own reminiscences, he works on the recreation of his recollections as a way to anchor his memory before the whirlwind of oblivion.
Santísimo Sacramento y Aerotaxi son dos series fotográficas que Agustín Zuluaga ha ensayado sobre la pérdida de la memoria causada por el Alzheimer o la demencia que afecta a sus padres y sus ancestros. Agustín conoce que la materia prima de la memoria son los recuerdos, y que estos nacen de la complicidad de las imágenes. A través de fotografías, negativos, cartas y sus propias reminiscencias, ejercita la recreación de sus recuerdos como alegato para anclar la memoria ante el torbellino del olvido.

Prin Rodríguez (Perú)
"Los hijos de Pariacaca" is the most recent series by photographer Prin Rodríguez.
Pariacaca is one of the oldest divinities of the Andean world, his stories are narrated in one of the most important texts recorded from oral traditions, "Gods and Men of Huarochirí." His children travel immense roads, they settle in Peru, passing through its cities occupied by ancient and current allegories. Prin presents the burning bodies of his friends and companions over a city that seems to be blind.
Los hijos de Pariacaca es la serie mas reciente de la fotógrafa Prin Rodríguez.
Pariacaca es una de las divinidades más antiguas del mundo andino, sus historias son narradas en uno de los textos más importantes recopilados de la tradición oral ‘Dioses y Hombres de Huarochirí’. Sus hijos han recorrido inmensos caminos, ellos han tomado el Perú, a través de sus ciudades ocupadas por alegorías antiguos y actuales. Prin retrata a los cuerpos en llamas de sus amigos y compañeros sobre la ciudad que parece estar ciega.

Julián Barón studied industrial engineering and worked as a quality manager in a road sign company until 2007, when left the office and became part of the Blank Paper (Madrid) collective . Between 2008 and 2015 he was director and professor of photography at Blank Paper Escuela Online, Valencia and Castellón. In the last decade he has developed a body of visual work that reacts to a frantic sociopolitical context, and that converges in different lines of action that connect his work - from different media such as photography, video, sound collage, installation or books- with teaching and the coordination of didactic projects. The main desire running through his projects is to provide new insights that contribute towards weakening the rigidity of contemporary collective imagination and that challenge the official discourses that construct memory, history and identity through images. In 2011 he published his first book C.E.N.S.U.R.A., and received honorable mention in the First PhotoBook Award, Paris Photo-Aperture Foundation. He was nominated by Fannie Escoulen for the Discovery Prize-Rencontres d'Arles 2015, where he presented the Régimen visual installation with three of his projects: C.E.N.S.U.R.A., TAUROMAQUIA and Los últimos días vistos del rey. His work has been exhibited at Center d'Art Pompidou-Metz, Netherlands Fotomuseum, Get It Louder Beijing, ChangJiang Biennale, Chongqing (China) and Arts Santa Mònica among others. His work C.E.N.S.U.R.A. received a Magnum Photography Award in 2016 in the Open Series category. In 2018 he will present the exhibition Régimen Desborde curated by Jorge Villacorta, in the Luis Miró Quesada Garland Room in Lima (Peru). This exhibition will collect several of his projects carried out in Spain and Peru between 2011 and 2018.
Julián Barón se formó en ingeniería industrial y trabajó como responsable de calidad en una empresa de señalización vial hasta el 2007, cuando deja su puesto y entra a formar parte del Colectivo Blank Paper (Madrid). De 2008 a 2015 fue director y profesor de fotografía en Blank Paper Escuela Castellón, Valencia y Online. En la última década ha desarrollado un cuerpo de trabajo visual que reacciona a un agitado contexto sociopolítico, y que confluye en diversas líneas de acción que conectan su obra -desde diferentes medios y soportes como fotografía, vídeo, collage sonoro, instalaciones o libros- con la docencia y coordinación de proyectos de carácter didáctico. El principal deseo que atraviesa sus proyectos es el de ofrecer nuevos puntos de vista que contribuyan a debilitar la rigidez de la imaginación colectiva contemporánea y cuestionar los discursos oficiales que construyen la memoria, la historia y la identidad a través de las imágenes. En 2011 publica su primer libro C.E.N.S.U.R.A., con el que recibe la mención de honor en el First PhotoBook Award, Paris Photo-Aperture Foundation. Fue nominado por Fannie Escoulen para el Discovery Prize-Rencontres d’Arles 2015, donde presentó la instalación Régimen visual con tres de sus proyectos: C.E.N.S.U.R.A., TAUROMAQUIA y Los últimos días vistos del rey.
