fototazo has asked a group of 50 curators, gallery owners, blog writers, photographers, academics and others actively engaged with Latin American photography to pick two photographers whose work deserves recognition.
This project aims to highlight great work being made in the region today and also to provide a starting point in both English and Spanish for exploring contemporary Latin American photography. LatAm f100 is a collaboration between fototazo and the photographer and educator Jaime Permuth.
Today we continue the series with selections by Sofia Ayazagoitia. Her biography follows her selections as well as a list of previous contributors to the series.

Text from the artist:
Paisajes breves (2014 - 2016)
With "Paisajes breves" I integrated two work bodies that I personally see as one, generating a transition and an overlap between both. In them I am talking about integrating the peripheral landscape of the city where there is a communion between nature and waste, a system in adaptation, that then generates another system in my house, a garden. (Using some of the elements, such as seeds, plants and industrial waste as containers).

"Jardín" ("Garden") is an amalgam between waste and life, between a system in adaptation and a controlled one. It is a continuity and extension of the peripheral areas of the city.
"Paisajes breves" is also a compendium of photographic registrations that show the development and creation process. The passage of time is not linear and a landscape is always short-lived, its variations are endless. Impermanence in a garden is a constant.

Sofia Ayarzagoitia was born in 1987 in Monterrey, México and is interested in photography that has a performative edge, but that comes from the heritage of documentary photography. This performative edge is drawn from the empathic relationship that she shares with her subjects. Even if she never appears in the photographs, the work is always referring to her, not only through texts but also through this relationship. She is interested in the actions they do for her camera. A lot of her work revolves around intimacy and themes emerging from it, keeping the necessary link between art and life. Trying to explain her existential and psychologically journey, she also explores the thin line between memories, fiction, time and space.
